The Funky Buddha Brewery makes beer, but it also makes good on promises.

The Boca Raton-based brewery created a one-off batch of beer, Turtle Power, and donated the proceeds of its sales to the family of a 2-year-old Coral Springs boy who nearly drowned in his family swimming pool in May.

The boy, James Edwards, is a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so the brewery wanted to honor him by making a beer that would taste like a chocolate turtle candy: an English milk porter brewed with chocolate, caramel and pecans. They hosted an event July 20 at their brewery and sold nearly all of the special brew — more than eight half barrels of beer — to raise more than $7,000, said John Linn, the brewery’s brand director.
