Lead Cellar Operator

Funky Buddha Brewery, located in Oakland Park, Florida, is seeking a full-time cellar operator to join its growing team

Established in 2010 at our Boca Raton brewpub, Funky Buddha is known for combining traditional brewing methods with culinary-inspired recipes utilizing all natural, food-centric ingredients. Some of its most well-known beers include flagships Hop Gun IPA and Floridian Hefeweizen, Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, No Crusts Peanut Butter and Jelly Brown Ale, and Last Snow Coffee Porter.

Funky Buddha’s production brewery - opened in June 2013 - features a 30bbl, four vessel brewhouse and is currently annualizing over 35,000 bbls in sales, with projections to grow to over 45,000 bbls by the end of 2016. Production includes draught and bottled beer distributed throughout the state of Florida. This fast growing company is the first production brewery in the greater Fort Lauderdale area and the largest brewery in South Florida, and is positioned for rapid expansion over the next few years.

A cellar operator is responsible for all aspects of processes related to fermentation, conditioning, treatment, clarification, carbonation, and any other processes required to achieve a final product ready for packaging. This employee must be a hard working, responsible, and self-motivated individual with a passion for craft beer and a desire to continue learning and growing within the industry. The candidate should also be a sociable person who is comfortable occasionally representing the brewery in public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assistance with yeast handling and management
  • Cellaring duties including fermentation management
  • Operation of centrifuge for beer clarification
  • CIP (clean-in-place) of brewing and fermentation tanks, and other equipment
  • Logging of all brewing related notes from brew day through fermentation, finishing, and packaging
  • Following SOP (standard operating procedure) in each phase of brewing, fermentation, and packaging
  • Maintaining sanitary practices in all aspects of beer processing
  • Executing preventative maintenance on all brewhouse and cellar equipment
  • Careful execution of treatment plans for specialty beers
  • Preparation, filling, transfer of beer from liquor and wine barrels
  • Assistance with lab testing and other Quality Assurance activities
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in staff training opportunities

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • One years experience in a commercial production brewery or high-volume brew pub
  • A strong passion for brewing and a desire to advance personal growth in the brewing industry
  • Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills
  • An advance understanding of all aspects of brewing including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP, and sanitization
  • Flexibility in terms of hours and a willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime
  • Computer literate with an understanding of Microsoft Office/spreadsheet programs
  • Excellent skills in communicating with a variety of audiences, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals
  • Ability to work safely in a wet, noisy, and non-temperature controlled environment
  • Ability to work safely in confined spaces and around complex machinery
  • Ability to stoop, squat, kneel, and crawl for purposes of collecting samples, gathering data, and cleaning

  • Ability to meet production, quality and safety standards

EDUCATION

  • Four year college degree in natural sciences (e.g., microbiology, biochemistry, food science, etc.) preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two years' experience in a commercial production brewery or high-volume brewpub preferred.
  • An understanding of quality assurance (QA) methods and techniques, laboratory operations, and basic knowledge of chemistry and biology preferred
  • Prior packaging, bottling, and racking experience preferred.
  • Mechanical experience and aptitude preferred.
  • Forklift operation or certification preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The cashier's role is to ensure that each and every customer is served in a friendly, professional, and timely manner. This includes greeting customers as they approach the food counter, processing customer orders through the POS system, and notifying the kitchen staff of any special requests. This person will process customer transactions, resolve customer issues, and maintain his/her work area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet all customers in a friendly and welcoming manner.
  • Record customer orders into the POS System, ensuring each and every request is fully and accurately entered.
  • Inform kitchen staff, through the POS System or verbal communication, of customer special requests/adjustments.
  • Identify customer issues/complaints and take necessary steps to correct them.
  • Perform returns and special transactions through the POS System.
  • Keep the "register station" stocked with all necessary items.
  • Clean and organize the "The Line" when necessary.
  • Notify management of all customer and POS System issues.
  • Consistently maintain a balanced cash drawer.
  • Perform other related duties as requested. Assist with expediting and food running.
  • Complete daily tasks from side work sheets

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Packaging and Production Manager will be responsible for managing the day to day operation of production and distribution warehouse facilities to ensure metrics are maintained or exceeded to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.   This position will collaborate with Head Brewer, General Manager, Brewery Operations Manager and Brand Director to ensure our product meets market demand and scheduling timetables.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage daily packaging operations.
  • Running all equipment on an automated bottling line and manage operation of the manual (and future automated) kegging system.
  • Solicit, hire, train, schedule, and manage packaging, warehouse and maintenance personnel
  • Develop, execute, and hold staff accountable to Standard Operating Procedures for their respective departments
  • Communicate with brewmaster, head brewer and inventory manager about managing labor needs in other operations.
  • Schedule and manage preventive maintenance in conjunction with operations.
  • Ensure a clean and sanitary work environment
  • Ensure all process documents are complete. Must be computer literate and be able to function in SAP/Excel/Ekos environments.
  • Ensure compliance with SOP’s and update as needed
  • Manage all warehouse activities ensuring operational goals are achieved by determined deadlines.
  • Effectively manage packaging and warehouse employees, focusing on retention and skill development.
  • Promote a “Zero Harm” work environment through adherence to OSHA, DOT HAZMAT and HACCP regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Manage site inventory control processes; ensuring compliance with internal SOPs and best practices.
  • Process orders accurately and in a timely manner according to SOPs and customer requirements.
  • Oversee daily production schedule in accordance with customer order demand and safety stock levels.
  • Facilitate and/or conduct all required employee training; including forklift and safety certification programs.
  • Assist in the development of budgets and ongoing review of trends & variances.
  • Completion of special projects as assigned by management.
  • Facilitate and/or conduct site tours for management, employees and customers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Direct packaging management experience, including demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and mentor employees
  • Experience running all equipment on a bottling line and managing the operation of a kegging system
  • Knowledge of and experience ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT HAZMAT and HACCP regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage production and distribution warehouse facilities
  • Exposure to high speed bagging lines or similar machinery
  • Material Handling experience
  • Warehouse Management System and/or Inventory Control software experience is preferred (Ekos preferred)
  • Proven ability to operate within budget guidelines
  • Experience facilitating effective employee training
  • Capacity to embrace and lead change in a constantly fluctuating business environment is essential
  • Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment, plus ability to exercise solid judgement and resourcefulness in the absence of formalized guidelines

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Kitchen Shift Leader serves as a Customer Service Ambassador by ensuring that the food we serve always meets or exceeds our standards of excellence at all times. JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Barback with Funky Buddha Brewery, the candidate will work in the bar, cooler and keg areas of our tap room. Barbacks are the pulse of the operation and are not taken for granted. Successful candidates will be a vital part of our busy tap room and contribute to high levels of customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include:

  • Stocking ice for all the wells
  • Bringing out clean glassware
  • Stocking cases of beer in the merchandise cooler
  • Stocking keg cooler stocked with enough inventory to get through the night
  • Changing out kegs
  • Cleaning keg lines
  • Cleaning growlers and keeping up with inventory

This Street Team is made up of dependable, part-time on-call employees who have a strong passion for craft beer and a belief in our brand. Street Teamers are tasked with helping to set-up, execute and break down beer samplings, activations, and festivals. RESPONSIBILITIES

Our Training and Education Specialist / Tour Manager will be responsible for developing and enacting detailed training programs dedicated to strengthening knowledge of our beers, history, and culture in each of our employees. As such, this specialist will serve as a company historian of sorts, compiling information and achievements and making them readily available and digestible for both other employees and consumers. Finally, this individual will also be responsible for enhancing and growing Funky Buddha’s brewery tour and customer education program.

The ideal candidate should be passionate about craft beer and driven to instill that same passion in others. He or she should be organized, efficient, and possess a very high level of proficiency in oral and written communication. As this is the first position of its kind at the brewery, this individual must be highly self-motivated and resourceful. We are looking for an independent thinker with the ability to work across multiple personalities and departments to find the best path and forge ahead. Detailed responsibilities include:

  • Writing and enacting detailed standards for our brewery tours
  • Organizing our tour program, hiring and training competent tour staff, and handling logistics
  • Maintaining tour equipment and consumables, taking inventory and writing P&Ls
  • Managing our reservations service and improving customer access to tours
  • Documenting company history, achievements, beers, and culture
  • Creating employee training programs that convey the above and instill a strong sense of culture and beer IQ into each employee
  • Assisting department heads in enforcing training and communication standards
  • Serving as secretary at department head meetings
  • Keeping all employees informed of the brewery’s latest products and initiatives in the company newsletter

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is an immediate full-time, hourly position as Assistant Tap Room Manager at Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park. This position will work with the Tap Room General Manager and other assistant managers to properly organize, manage, and execute tap room operations. This employee must be a hard-working, responsible, and positive individual with a desire to continue learning and growing within the company and the craft beer industry as a whole.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Shift oversight of all tap room staff including bar staff, servers, bar backs, and merchandisers

  • Utilizing in-house POS to properly register sales, open and close the tap room, and determine tip outs

  • Working with tap room management to increase efficiency and reduce loss

  • Continually improving customer service and the customer experience within the tap room

  • Working with tap room management to assist in hiring, training, and scheduling tap room staff

  • Continuous maintenance of the tap room and its fixtures

A cellar operator is responsible for all aspects of processes related to fermentation, conditioning, treatment, clarification, carbonation, and any other processes required to achieve a final product ready for packaging.   • Assistance with yeast handling and management
  • Cellaring duties including fermentation management
  • Operation of centrifuge for beer clarification
  • CIP (clean-in-place) of brewing and fermentation tanks, and other equipment
  • Logging of all brewing related notes from brew day through fermentation, finishing, and packaging
  • Following SOP (standard operating procedure) in each phase of brewing, fermentation, and packaging

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Busser with Funky Buddha Brewery, the candidate will work in the customer area of our tap room. Successful candidates will be a vital part of our busy tap room and contribute to high levels of customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning Tables - Busser will spend most of their shift cleaning tables. This involves waiting for those at the table to finish eating, then clearing all of the dirty plates, glasses and silverware. The busser then wipes down and sanitizes the table, as well as sweeps the floor and chairs to clean up any food spills. The busser must also circulate the tap room and help table maintenance during the guest dining experience.
  • Garbage Duty - Busser must empty all of the filled trash cans and replace the used bags. They must bring filled bags to a dumpster. Empty boxes should be broken down and brought to the box compactor.
  • Spills - Spills in the tap room should be mopped right away and have a wet floor sign out for display to notify guests.
  • Customer Service - When the tap room is very busy, bussers must often help inform guests of how our operation works.This requires that bussers are prompt and friendly, so having good communication skills is a must for the job.

Packaging Associate

Funky Buddha Brewery, located in Oakland Park, Florida, is seeking a full-time Packaging Associate to join its growing team. Established in 2010 at its Boca Raton brewpub, Funky Buddha is known for pushing the boundaries of traditional brewing methods with culinary-inspired recipes utilizing all-natural, food-centric ingredients. Some of its best-known beers include flagships Hop Gun IPA and Floridian Hefeweizen, Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, No Crusts Peanut Butter and Jelly Brown Ale, and Last Snow Coffee Porter.

Funky Buddha’s production brewery - opened in June 2013 - features a 30bbl, four vessel brewhouse and is currently annualizing over 35,000 bbls in sales, with projections to grow to over 45,000 bbls by the end of 2016. Production includes draught and bottled beer distributed throughout the state of Florida. JOB DESCRIPTION

This is an immediate, full-time, entry-level position as a Packaging Associate with potential for advancement. This employee must be a hard working, responsible, and self-motivated individual with a passion for craft beer and a desire to continue learning and growing within the industry. They say that brewing is 95% cleaning – in that respect this position will be responsible for 95% of the brewing done at Funky Buddha Brewery!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Packaging of beer, including bottling and kegging
  • Operating our keg cleaning equipment
  • CIP (clean-in-place) of brewing and fermentation tanks, and other equipment
  • Milling grain
  • Unloading grain and other raw materials
  • Loading and unloading trucks
  • Cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior experience working in a brewery and/or an extensive background in home brewing
  • Fundamental knowledge of the brewing process
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work as part of a team

EXPERIENCE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING IS PREFERABLE

  • Mechanical experience and aptitude
  • Forklift operation or certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

JOB DESCRIPTION

Do you love talking to people about the joys of craft beer? Do you pine over unique styles and seek to share your beer findings with others? Do you have an energetic, charismatic, and outgoing personality? If you answered yes to all of these questions, you might be our next tour guide at Funky Buddha Brewery!

We are seeking an immediate, part-time position as a tour guide here at the brewery. Tour guides conduct public and private tours of the brewery facility and spread the love of the Buddha to our thirsty visitors in the tap room. The ideal candidate will have an outgoing, charismatic personality with a deep desire to share the love that is craft beer. Knowledge of craft beer styles, history, and brewing techniques are a plus - but a deep desire to continue learning about brewing and the beer business is required. Must be able to speak comfortably to groups of 25 or more people and remain passionate, courteous, and friendly throughout. This job will require night and weekend hours, approximately 20-25 hours/week.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 21+ years of age
  • A strong passion for craft beers as well as a knowledge of the brewing process, beer styles, beer presentation, and rudimentary beer dispense
  • Public speaking experience with outgoing and sociable personality
  • Natural leadership, integrity, loyalty, and exceptional personal character
  • Excellent customer service skills, good communication skills, and ability to work as part of a team
  • Possess the ability to to work with several guests at one time, while maintaining individual customer satisfaction
  • Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds; occasionally lift/carry up to 50 lbs
  • Able to be trained in using draft tools and equipment
  • Maintain high standards of safety
  • Open availability to work nights and weekends
